Maybe it is because they are from the same genus (Prunus) that they seem made for each other. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients for Cherry Almond Coffee Cake<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The recipe starts with baking basics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>flour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sugar (granulated and powdered)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>butter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>egg<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>milk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>baking powder, soda and salt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>vanilla and almond extracts (or one of the two)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For tang I went with <strong>plain Greek yogurt<\/strong> instead of the traditional sour cream because I almost always have it on hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sliced almonds<\/strong> work best for this recipe instead of whole or chopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This cake uses <strong>dried cherries<\/strong> so it can be enjoyed year round. If the cherries do not feel plump and moist, soak them in a little warm water to plump back up before adding to the recipe.
