But this recipe pops a whole pork shoulder into the slow cooker until it soaks up all of that fabulous flavor as it cooks up nice and tender enough to shred. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Serve it with your favorite chili toppings and sides. Some people prefer crackers, but chili isn't chili in my house without <a href=\"https:\/\/thatrecipe.com\/cast-iron-skillet-cornbread\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cornbread<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Ingredients<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Don't be overwhelmed by the long list of ingredients. All are easy to find at a local grocery store. However, you may notice a few unusual ingredients for chili in this recipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cocoa Powder?<\/strong> Yes, chocolate adds a wonderful depth to the chili. Just make sure it is unsweetened cocoa powder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mexican oregano<\/strong> is better than Italian\/ Mediterranean oregano for this recipe, if you have it. They are actually different plants with slightly different tastes. Mexican oregano has a citrus like taste, where as Mediterranean is more minty. But, use what you have.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use your favorite <strong>liquid smoke<\/strong> flavor. Back when I was growing up you could only find hickory in the grocery store.
