It seems almost every culture has their own take on fried dough: doughnuts, beignets, fry bread, churros, krebli, loukoumades, makhan bada, youtiao, zeppoles, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of the recipes are pretty similar. Start by mixing some simple ingredients (flour, fat, leavener) and cook it in hot oil for a few minutes until crispier outside and fluffy inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sopaipillas are popular throughout the Americas in Spanish speaking countries. They whip up quickly and make a great compliment to a spicy meal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have seen quite a few pictures of round sopaipillas instead of square. I was not in the mood to cut out circles, reroll the dough and cut out more circles, etc. That and my 3\" biscuit cutter has gone missing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simple squares were just fine, thank you very much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make them as an appetizer by sprinkling with some seasoned salt and cheese instead of the cinnamon sugar and honey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
